In Vivo Confocal Microscopy (IVCM)
A practical guide to interpreting corneal nerve structure, immune activity, and pathological patterns. Focused on real-world findings such as nerve loss, microneuromas, and inflammation markers.
4. Microneuromas
Microneuromas are bulb-like nerve endings formed after injury or aberrant regeneration. They are considered markers of abnormal nerve repair and hyperexcitability.
These structures may correlate with spontaneous pain and mechanical hypersensitivity. They are frequently observed in patients with neuropathic corneal pain.
